Cape
Blanco is one of the most unique places in the country. It is the most
westerly
point
in
the
lower
48 states and
is the home of the oldest contiually operating lighthouse on the Cost of
Oregon.
Cape Blanco is a wonderland of history, rolling meadow, beach, rock, eath
and sky. Campers often spend weeks exploring all the possibilites offered.
In this section we'll focus upon the camping aspect and will give the
Lighthouse and Hughes House their own sections. Click on the photos for
historic background information.
CAPE BLANCO STATE PARK CAMPGROUND*
Where: Four miles north of Port Orford. Turn west on Cape Blanco Road and
drive five miles to reach the campground.
Located near the ocean, this campground has access to the nearby Cape Blanco
Lighthouse with secluded beaches to its north and south, the historic Hughes
House, and it a is favorite destination for storm watching from the spectacular
cliffs.
In the main part of the campground there are fifty-four campsites (rates
are $16 per night May 1 to September 30 and $12 October 1 to April 30),
all with electricity, a picnic table and a fire ring. Each site is limited
to eight people. Handicapped accessible hot showers and clean restrooms
and RV dumpsites are available. Firewood is for sale. There is a primitive
overflow area where spaces rent for $8 a night.
There are four log cabins for rent for $35 a night. Each has a double bed,
a bunk bed, a table with four chairs, and an electric heater. One cabin
is handicapped accessible. There are fire rings and picnic tables near
the porches with a view of the ocean.
There is a secluded area for hikers and bikers ($4 a night per person)
with bike lock stations, water, fire rings, and picnic tables. Showers
for non-campers are $2. The Junior Ranger program is available.
There is also a group campsite* (with water) offering space for fifty people
($60 a night for the first twenty-five people and $2.40 for each person
26 through 50). Additional facilities in this area include a horse camp*
with eight campsites and six double horse corrals ($14 for campsite up
to 8 people and 2 horses in a double corral). There are 150 acres of open
riding range, seven miles of horse trails, and eight miles of hiking trails.

Close to the ocean, yet in the woods!
Comfortable Camping
Plenty of privacy with a multitude of choices. Campers, RV's, tents and there
are even secluded cabins for rent. Just a few minutes walk to the beach or
Lighthouse.
Bring the Horses!
Horses need a vacation too! At Cape Blanco State Park there is a horse camp,
comlete with fenced areas for the horses, riding trails with an oceanview
and workout areas.
